Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. It lets a site remember details about your visit, such as your theme setting, and it lets third parties like Google measure traffic and show ads.

We also use similar technologies like Local Storage, which allows us to save your preferences (such as Dark Mode) directly in your browser without expiration dates.

2. How We Use Cookies

We use cookies and local storage to keep the calculator working, to measure how the site is used, and to support the free service through advertising. They fall into three groups:

a. Strictly Necessary & Functional

These keep the site working. You cannot switch them off in our settings, but you can block or delete them in your browser.

  • Session cookie: PHPSESSID keeps your session so forms and comments work securely. It is deleted when you close your browser.
  • Theme Preference: We use localStorage to remember if you prefer Dark Mode or Light Mode.
  • Calculation history: reverse_tax_history is kept in your browser's local storage so you can see your recent calculations. It stays on your device and we never receive it.
  • Consent choice: consent_prefs_v1 remembers your cookie choice for 180 days. It is set only for visitors in India, who see our own cookie banner.

b. Performance & Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people use. It sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID> (up to 2 years), and reports show aggregated statistics. Where the law requires consent, for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, these cookies are used only after you agree in Google's consent message.

c. Advertising (Targeting)

We use Google AdSense to show ads that keep this calculator free. Google and its partners may set cookies such as __gads, __gpi and IDE (about 13 months) to measure ads, limit repeats and, where allowed, personalise them. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland this happens only after you consent in Google's message. In US states with opt-out rights you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. Cookie names can change, and Google lists the current ones in its policy.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are placed by third parties on our pages. We do not control these cookies. The main third parties are:

  • Google (Analytics, AdSense, reCAPTCHA and Google Fonts): Used for usage statistics, advertising, comment spam protection and fonts. Read Google's Cookie Policy.

4. Your Choices & Control

You have the right to accept or reject cookies. Here is how you can manage them:

Consent Messages

If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, Google's consent message appears on your first visit. In US states with privacy laws, Google shows an opt-out message. If you visit from India, our own cookie banner appears at the bottom of the page, where you can accept all, decline all or choose categories. You can reopen it at any time with the "Manage Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. To reset a choice made in Google's message, clear this site's cookies in your browser and reload the page.

Browser Settings

Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Check your browser's "Help" or "Settings" menu to learn how.

5. Your Data Rights

We are based in India. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is being phased in, with its main duties due from May 2027, and we will update this page as they apply. Today you can write to support@reversesalestaxcalc.org to ask what personal data we hold from your comments or contact messages, to correct or delete it, or to withdraw a consent you gave.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal or regulatory reasons. The date at the top shows the latest update. Questions? Write to support@reversesalestaxcalc.org or use our contact page.
